Enjoy authentic flavours with the best hot pot in Montreal

My first hot pot experience in Montreal was a letdown. I walked into a trendy spot with high hopes, lured by glowing reviews and Instagram-worthy photos.

But when the broth arrived, it was bland and uninspiring—far from the authentic flavours I’d imagined. Instead of feeling transported to the bustling streets of Asia, I left disappointed and went straight home.

Since then, I’ve made it my mission to uncover the city’s most authentic hot pot spots. If you’re craving the real deal, this guide has you covered.

1. Happy Lamb Hot Pot

Happy Lamb Hot Pot in Montreal is the go-to spot for an all-you-can-eat hot pot feast. Nestled in Chinatown, it boasts a wide selection of fresh ingredients. From tofu and seafood to adventurous options like cow stomach, you can have them all here.

As for broths, the yin-yang option lets you enjoy the best of both worlds—a spicy kick on one side and a mild base on the other. Both are packed with flavour, making it a choice you’ll always enjoy.

Plus, the price-to-quality ratio is hard to beat. For about $40, you can enjoy unlimited premium cuts of beef and lamb.

If you’re lucky, you might catch a special deal during happy hour, which is available from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

2. Fondue Kim Long

Operating Hours: Wednesday – Sunday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Fondue Kim Long stands out for its incredible variety of ingredients. Their wide selection of seafood and meat is neatly stored in a fridge, ready for you to pick from.

If you’re a fan of bold flavours, don’t miss the Tom Yum broth—it’s a spicy, flavorful delight! However, it’s only available on weekends, so give it a try if you visit.

Vegans and vegetarians are also in luck. There are plenty of options, such as fresh tofu, an assortment of vegetables, and flavourful veggie broths.

Another highlight is the all-you-can-eat experience. For about $37 for two, you get access to an extensive selection of ingredients and multiple broths.

3. Kagayaki

Operating Hours: Monday – Wednesday, Sunday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Thursday – Saturday: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Price: $$$

Kagayaki is a go-to spot for a premium Japanese hot pot experience. Although it has gotten a bit pricier recently, the portions remain generous, and the quality remains top-notch.

The hot pot broth is a standout—it’s not your typical frozen soup base. Instead, it boasts a traditional, homey flavour that complements everything from vegetables to lamb and seafood.

And don’t forget dessert—it’s included! Depending on the day, you could enjoy ice cream or mochi.

The place is a treat for those who enjoy more refined hot pot dining. The space is clean, modern, and beautifully decorated. It even features thoughtful Mount Fuji artwork and unique souvenirs for purchase.

Contact Details: +1 (514) 861-7777

Operating Hours: Monday – Thursday, Sunday: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM | Friday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 10:30 PM

Malatang Fondue Épicée Zhang Liang offers a beloved self-serve hot pot experience. You can select your ingredients from a variety of fresh vegetables, meat, and sauces.

Once you’ve made your picks, the staff takes care of the cooking. It’s a great feature for first-timers who might be unsure where to start.

The standout here is the spicy beef bone broth. I like that it’s packed with rich Sichuan flavours. If you’re sensitive to heat, you can adjust the spice level to suit your taste.

However, the space feels a bit dated, and some ingredient labels are worn. Regardless, it’s hard to beat the price—starting at just $16, taxes and tips included.

5. Liuyishou

Liuyishou is perfect for those who love variety. Their broths include spicy mala seafood, sukiyaki, and mushrooms. Plus, the hot pot comes with multiple dividers, making it easy to try several broths at once.

What sets Liuyishou apart is their all-you-can-eat option. For about $35 per person, you get two hours to indulge in a wide selection of fresh ingredients like meat and seafood.

You can order smaller portions to sample more flavours without overwhelming yourself with large servings.

The sauce bar is another highlight. It offers a range of options—from soy sauce to satay—to create your custom dips. If you enjoy experimenting with sauces, this is the place for you.
