Taste the tropics with the best Caribbean restaurants in Montreal
You know what they say – good food transports you to places. And if a signature jerk chicken doesn’t have you hearing Haitian drums and smelling a faint Island beach, is it really that good?
I have the answer if you’re tired of Caribbean restaurants that underdeliver. All of these places have made my favourites list for various reasons. Some offer unique cocktails, while others serve affordable dishes.
And if you love Caribbean food as much as I do, don’t let other restaurants take your money. Only trust these places!

For authentic Haitian flavours, Casserole Kréole should be your top spot. It’s near the Jean-Talon and De Castelnau metro stations, so it’s a convenient place to go for a delicious feast.
While primarily a takeout spot, Casserole Kréole does offer limited seating if you want to enjoy your meal on-site. If you can score a seat, enjoy its quaint decor that screams Haitian culture.
The menu is packed with staples like the griot. It’s a tender pork served in generous portions. But if you want something lighter, the Creole style is a lovely dish.
2. Casse-Croûte Steve-Anna

Casse-Croûte Steve-Anna is where you know the food will hit the mark every single time. The dishes are freshly prepared, with a steady flow of orders that keep the flavours top-quality.
If it’s your first time, don’t miss their Haitian patties and chicken wings. Patrons love them for a reason.
The portions are also generous. If you’re ordering the griot or the combo plates, be ready to leave full and satisfied.
The prices are reasonable as well. They average between $10 to $20 per person. So, if you bring the entire family, we’re sure your bank account won’t cry.
Just a reminder: arrive early to take advantage of free parking. Paid street parking is also available nearby if you miss out.
3. Méli-Mélo

Address: 640 Rue Jarry E
Contact Details: +1 (514) 277-6409
Operating Hours: Monday – Saturday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM | Sunday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Méli-Mélo is hands down one of Montreal’s top Haitian restaurants. If you’re a fan of rice, don’t skip on their Diri djondjon (Haitian black mushroom rice) or diri kole (rice and peas).
However, you have to place your order at the front cashier before being able to secure a spot at the back. Things can get chaotic during busy times. Plus, seating is limited, with a menu geared toward quick bites.
On the good side, they offer fun finds for those seeking rare Haitian ingredients as the place doubles as a mini grocery store. You can find items like natural djondjon mushrooms, pikliz (spicy pickled vegetables), and fried plantains.
4. Caribbean Paradise

Caribbean Paradise really lives up to its name. Their menu is a solid mix of Caribbean classics, from jerk chicken plates to Trini-style doubles.
When I visited, I had the boneless goat with Dholl Puri. The portions were so generous that I left completely satisfied.
The highlight was the Pholourie, which I also had as an appetiser. These golden fried dough balls were perfectly paired with a dipping sauce.
For dessert, the tropical mango and pistachio ice creams stood out. They’re rich and sweet, making them perfect for sharing if you’re with someone.
And if you’re planning a gathering, this spot is ideal too. You can book their place for events or call them for catering service.
5. Kwizinn

Kwizinn is the place to go if you want Caribbean-inspired dishes that are as authentic as they get. It’s upscale yet family-friendly, even for young kids.
They offer octopus carpaccio with bruschetta-style sauce, mashed avocado, and focaccia. For a creamier option, try their Haitian-inspired baked mac and cheese.
If you’re craving hearty Caribbean meals, their Griyo is a standout. Pair it with pikliz for the right balance of spice and tang without overpowering the dish.
And while meals are pricier, it’s a great spot to bond and enjoy a feast.
6. Le Jardin Du Cari

Le Jardin Du Cari offers a taste of West Indian-Guyanese cuisine with a warm and inviting atmosphere. It’s a small, family-owned spot ideal for enjoying a casual meal with a homey vibe.
One of their best sellers is the goat and pumpkin roti. The meat falls off the bone and sits with the naturally sweet, spiced pumpkin. The roti is light and soft, so taking big bites is easy.
The shrimp roti is also delicious. It’s best paired with the homemade hot sauce with just the right kick.
And if you’re a fan of vegan options, the vegetable roti sandwich is a fantastic choice. It has a hearty filling of chickpeas and potato curry. You can even add a pumpkin if you want.
7. Lloydie’s

For a nice big meal, Lloydie’s is the perfect spot. Their jerk chicken plate is served with flavourful rice and sweet plantains. It also has a nice touch of spice and smokiness, so each bite is really packed with flavour.
Their patties are a great starter if you’re in the mood for something a little different. They’re a perfect snack or light meal in veggie, pork, or chicken fillings. Plus, they only cost $3 each.
Another dish worth a try is their oxtail stew. It’s a great main course, with a rich-tasting stew and tender oxtail.

For years, Mr. Patty has been a staple in Montreal’s Caribbean food scene. In fact, their beef patties are the star here because they’re always so tender and well-seasoned.
I recommend trying out the chicken roti if you want a hearty meal. Made with tender chicken and a blend of spices, this is the dish to order for that authentic Caribbean experience. And at $14 per serving, it really won’t break the bank.
Besides their famous patties and roti, Mr. Patty offers comforting chicken soup. It even comes with mini dumplings that make it tastier to enjoy.
9. Restaurant Kamúy

Restaurant Kamúy doesn’t have to try hard to elevate its Caribbean flavours. Their vegan options offer a taste of the islands with vegetable curry and plantain fritters.
But their jerk chicken is always a good choice if you’re set for a complete meal. You can pair it with a cold Prestige beer or a refreshing ti-punch for a perfect lunch.
Don’t miss out on their griot, too. It’s a classic marinated and fried pork dish with comforting flavours and a satisfying balance of crispiness and tenderness.
The sweet potato dessert is a must-try for those with a sweet tooth. It’s a cross between pumpkin pie and spice cake, which is a nice option for the fall season. It pairs well with their coffee so don’t forget to get one too.

For serious Caribbean meal lovers, Caribbean Tasty Treats is definitely worth checking out. I tried their curry chicken and found it a great meal with bold spices I truly enjoyed. It has a strong turmeric flavour, which some might find overpowering.
For extra sides, don’t skip the fried plantains. They’re crispy and sweet, and the way they’re cooked is just right.
But if you want something with a bit more meat, you can opt for either the goat or chicken roti. I tried it, and the goat was slightly bony but delicious.

Boulangerie Spicee is a must-visit if you want authentic Caribbean dishes that don’t overwhelm you with choices.
Their Jamaican patties are the real deal for those who love savoury snacks. The crust is golden and slightly crispy, while the filling tastes balanced.
Their goat roti is one of the best in town, too. The meat is tender and juicy, wrapped in a soft roti. It’s comforting but may not be enough to keep you full.
Apart from the meals, something to really line up for is their rock cakes. With a hint of coconut and sweetness, it’s a perfect treat to start or end your meal. They’re baked fresh daily, so you only get the best quality.

The variety on the menu keeps me returning to Caribbean Curry House. From jerk chicken to goat roti, there’s something for everyone. Plus, affordable food makes them a favourite among locals.
Their ackee and saltfish are a must-try for me as it’s always served hot. But if you prefer a bit of spice, going for the jerk chicken is great. Its smoky, charred flavour paired perfectly with sides like peas and rice.
Another favourite at Caribbean Curry House is the doubles. These Trinidadian-style flatbreads are stuffed with chickpeas and seasoned with delicious spices. They’re the right snack or side to your main dish.
13. Mango Bay

Mango Bay is the ideal place to go if you want classic Caribbean flavours. Their escovitched red snapper is a fave, especially for those who love spicy dishes. This meal has sides like rice and peas, fried plantains, and yam for a hearty meal.
The curry goat at Mango Bay is another winner. The meat is tender, rich, and simmered in a flavourful curry sauce. It’s served alongside fluffy rice and peas, which is perfect for your main course.
Order a Red Stripe beer for a complete Caribbean experience if you’re in the mood for a drink.
Just note: The location is amazing, but the entrance can be tricky to find. You’ll need to enter through Chez Bong and head upstairs. Trust me, it’s worth the effort.
